10/11/09 - BDSFA Girls' League

AFTER FINISHING AS runners-up for the past two seasons, Godwin signalled their aspirations to go one better with a pair of convincing wins over St Margaret’s and Ripple.

In a devastating first half against Ripple, playmaker Louise Dove ran riot on the right wing, scoring two quick goals and setting up Briony Hagger for a hat-trick.

Morgan-Lilly Duffield scored her first competitive goal to make it six and the industrious Faith Efemwen added a further goal before the break to give an unassailable lead.

With the game in the bag, Godwin eased off although Efemwen was still able to add one more as well as a brace for Hollie Ross, switching from defence to midfield, in a rejigged second half line-up.

St Margaret’s then began their own campaign in encouraging fashion, dispatching the same opponents 3-0, before lining up against Godwin.

The pace and power of St Margaret’s worried their opponents throughout and Megan Tucker had to be at her best in goal to tidy up whenever her defence was breached.

Dove was again on hand to open the scoring before setting up Hagger for a second before half-time.

But a well deserved consolation for St Margaret’s put the cat amongst the pigeons and caused concern over whether the favourites could kill-off their spirited opposition.

In the end, Efemwen’s tireless running saw her create a half-chance for Hagger who gobbled it up at the first time of asking.

Dove then hit a post late on, before Hagger racked up her third hat-trick in four matches, using her skill to create space before thundering a fine solo effort into the top corner to ensure the points went to the Finnymore Road side.

Godwin: Tucker, Young, Ross, Dove, Hagger (capt), Efmewen, Duffield, Simpson, Fisher.
