Barking & Dagenham Post Cup Final

HUNTERS HALL SECURED their second piece of silverware after a convincing victory over Manor in the final of the Barking & Dagenham Post Cup. A double from skipper Jesse Amoh and a Regan Downes' strike was enough to put the borough 11-a-side cup alongside the 7-a-side crown they won earlier in the season.

Hall started quickly and the impressive Sam Mercer nearly gave his side a dream start until he was superbly denied by Walid Benmouna in the Manor goal. Mercer was also a constant threat with his electric pace and, with Amoh bossing the centre of the park, it was all one way traffic.

Wide players, Louis Mackman and Charlie Pulham were having joy in the wide open spaces of the Victoria road pitch and with confidence high, Hall were passing the ball around and enjoying the lion's share of possession.

Regan Downes worked tirelessly in his centre midfield role and his clever pass set Mercer away, only for Benmouna to deny him again.

Manor were battling away but had no answer to wave after wave of Hall pressure. They continued to dominate and it was no surprise when Amoh fired them into the lead from twenty-five yards. Charlie Heath held the ball up and the Hall captain skipped past two challenges before giving Benmouna no chance with a thumping effort.

Hall should have doubled their lead moments later but Heath and Mackman collided with the goal at their mercy.

The second half started in the same vein as the first, with Hall in control all over the park and Mackman was inches away from doubling his side's lead. Amoh then tested the Manor keeper with a fierce effort and Mercer saw another chance go begging, when he fired wide after another pacy run.

Manor were hanging on but they fell further behind courtesy of an Amoh spot kick after Lewis swung over a free kick which was handled by Kiran Nanu, giving ref Duggins no choice but to award the penalty.

Hall, cheered on by a noisy support knew a third would kill the game and it arrived through a mixture of skill and good fortune with seconds remaining. Amoh swung a corner over and Downes flicked the ball through the crowd with the outside of his right boot.

The remainder of the game saw no further goals but did see Manor give their support something to cheer about as they battled on gamely to the end.

However, no one could deny Hall their moment of glory and Amoh lifted the cup to cap a memorable season for the Alibon Road school.
