Benik Roars for Young Lions

BENIK AFOBE'S ENGLAND U16s debut saw the former District striker get on the scoresheet twice in a one-sided victory over Northern Ireland in the Sky Sports Victory Shield.

The Jo Richardson Community School pupil, who fired forty goals in thirty-three appearances for Arsenal's U16s last season, was one of the standout players in a convincing win.

Benik grabbed the first and fourth goals in a crushing 6-0 win that sees England top the group.

Afobe opened the scoring in the eighth minute, latching onto a misplaced back-pass to calmly sidefoot home from just inside the Northern Ireland penalty area.

His second came in the fifty-seventh minute, with a sharp turn and shot from close range, which surprised the opposition goalkeeper.

Benik also played a part in England's second goal. Skipper Josh McEachran's right sided freekick was glanced goalwards by Afobe's outstretched boot. The Irish 'keeper could only fumble the ball into the path of a hapless defender who diverted the loose ball into his own net.
