Benik Steps Up

AFTER EQUALLING MICHAEL Owen's goalscoring record for England U16s in the Victory Shield, former District hitman Benik Afobe made the step up to the U17s in fine style.

Afobe struck on his debut against Israel in the Algarve Tournament in February, before coming off the bench last week to net the winner against Serbia in the UEFA European U17s Championship Elite Qualifying Round.

His sparkling form earned a starting place against Hungary, where the ex-Monteagle pupil created Jacob Walcott's opener, before securing a place in May's quarter-finals with a goal of his own.
