CROYDON WERE LEFT wondering what they have to do to beat Barking & Dagenham as the District side knocked them out of the London Schools' FA Crisp Shield for the fourth year in succession.
The home side took the lead in the first half through Sorba Thomas. The St Margaret's marksman mesmerised the opposition with a surging run and shot, before Croydon rallied to equalise before half time.
Both sides had chances to edge ahead with Max Watters influential in midfield, forcing the Croydon keeper to make a succession of top drawer saves.
When the pressure finally told, it was Michael Folkes, pushed into an unfamiliar striking role, who ultimately made the difference. A pair of powerful runs and pinpoint finishes meant clear daylight between the sides as Barking & Dagenham progressed to the semi-finals as 3-1 winners.
