Evans-Moore Plate 2010
(Winners - St Peter's)
ST PETER'S SECURED THE Evans-Moore plate after an excellent afternoon of football. The Goresbrook Road school lifted the silverware when a solitary goal was enough to see off a spirited Roding side. It was just reward for the team that went through the whole tournament without conceding a single goal.
St Peter's cruised through the group stages, with victories over The Leys, Richard Alibon, St. Joseph's and Roding. They finished off with a goalless draw against Rush Green but they had done enough to secure a semi final spot.
Convincing
They were joined in the last four by Roding who opened up with a 1-0 victory over Richard Alibon. Even though they then lost to St. Peters and St. Josephs, a convincing win over The Leys booked their passage through.
Richard Alibon were the third team to qualify after they bounced back from their opening defeat with good wins over The Leys and St. Joseph's. St. Joseph's completed the semi final line up after a win and two draws saw them do enough to progress.
The first semi final saw St. Peter's and St. Joseph's battle it out as a tight affair was settled in the favour of the former as once again their defence held firm.
The second semi-final was even tighter; Alibon and Roding both had chances but neither side could grab the all important winner. Extra time could not separate the two sides and it went to the dreaded penalty shoot out. Roding held their nerve to break Alibon hearts and take their place in the final two.
Pace
The final was played at a great pace with the action swinging from one end to another. However neither side could score and so the tie went into extra time.
St. Peter's started the period on top and took the lead courtesy of a lucky deflection. Roding tried to come back into the game but St. Peter's had held on to secure the trophy.
