He also scored the first international goal for England at the new Wembley and is approaching 50 caps for his country.
Brought up in the Thames View area, he then attended Eastbury Comprehensive School, along with his older brother Paul who currently plays for Leyton Orient – another former Barking & Dagenham schoolboy.
He has formed a battling reputation as a strong, uncompromising defender, with a never-say-die attitude and an eye for goal.
