Martin Peters
MARTIN PETERS (RIGHT) WAS England's right half in the 1966 World Cup Final. He scored the second goal, giving England a 2-1 lead, which they held until the 89th minute. A little-remembered fact is that he was the only player booked in the final!
Martin was known as "The Ghost" and Sir Alf Ramsey described him as being 10 years ahead of his time. At the time of the 1966 World Cup, Martin was a West Ham player and he was later sold to Spurs for a British record fee of £200,000.
He played with distinction for England, gaining 67 caps, scoring 20 goals and captaining his country on four occasions.
