Sir Alf Ramsey
SIR ALF RAMSEY played eleven seasons for Southampton and Ipswich Town. He received 32 caps for England, captaining the side 3 times, and scoring 3 goals as a right-sided defender.
It is as a manager that he is best remembered – steering England to their only World Cup win in 1966. He received a knighthood from the Queen in 1967 for services to football.
"He was a winner and without Alf Ramsey England would not have won the World Cup in 1966. He gave us our proudest moment." - Bobby Charlton, Manchester United.
