BDSFA Girls' League - 18/6/09
St Joseph's 3 (Wells 2, King)
Rush Green 1
AFTER BEING RUNNERS-UP to Godwin at two tournaments already this season, and with Godwin just one point adrift in, St Joseph's had all to play for in their last girls league game against Rush Green, knowing victory would ensure their first piece of silverware.
Both teams started strongly but it was St Joseph's who found the net first, with a great ball supplied by King for Wells to slam into the bottom corner.
Just forty-five seconds into the second half though, Rush Green replied with a superb goal of their own, leaving St Joseph's rattled and the destiny of the title in the balance.
Realising this was going to be a battle, St Joseph's managed to up their game but District keeper, Lancaster, stayed cool and put a stop to everything that came her way.
Four minutes from time, some great passing between, Howlett, King and Wells allowed Wells to blast in her second and swing the tie back in her team's favour.
St Joseph's had no time to relax though as Rush Green were always threatening.
But, with just two minutes to go, some great teamwork led to King smashing in a phenominal third goal for St Joseph's, giving them the win, and the league title!
