THE FIRST GAME of 2009, after a fortnight of frosty frustration, brought defeat for the boys' District side in the Essex Finch League at the hands of rivals Thurrock.

Brendan Ocran's 4th goal of the season brought scant consolation to Barking & Dagenham as the visitors were made to pay for a host of missed chances. Thurrock rattled in four goals of their own, to leapfrog their opponents at the top of the table.
