Barking & Dagenham Girls 4 (Wells 2, Darroux, Davis)
BARKING & DAGENHAM GIRLS’ District side extended their unbeaten run to six games in their first match of the new season. Goals from Kleesha Darroux and Aniesha Davis were sandwiched between Elicia Wells’ brace to complete a thoroughly accomplished performance.
Both sides began the fixture with equal gusto, sparring cautiously in the early stages. Wells and Ellie Webster tried early sighters at goal as Barking & Dagenham began to settle into their playing pattern.
The visitors were given the ideal fillip in the ninth minute when Chloe Webster combined with Wells for the captain to fire the first of the day from twelve yards.
And from that moment on, Barking & Dagenham never looked back, with goalkeepers Sarah-Louise Sach and Emma Lancaster only touching the ball once each for the entire game. High praise must go to defensive duo Amber Wallace and Chanel Sinclair, who dominated throughout and snuffed out any semblance of a Woking attack.
Instead, the home goal was laid to siege, with Davis going close in the sixteenth minute after Cara Harris played her in. The resultant corner from Libby Patten flashed across goal, narrowly evading Chloe Webster’s outstretched boot.
More chances fell to Davis, Chloe Webster and Darroux before Barking & Dagenham extended their lead just before half time.
Davis stung the keeper’s hands with a fierce drive that looked destined to find the net. The rebound again fell to the Manor Junior School pupil who spread play wide to the right. Darroux raced onto the pass and lashed a howling thunderbolt into the roof of the net to jubilant scenes from the visiting support.
Fifteen minutes later, it was Davis’ turn to get her name on the score-sheet. The influential Wells won possession in midfield before playing a defence splitting pass wide to Ellie Webster. The winger’s well-placed shot was only half saved, falling to Davis to scuff in the loose ball.
Harris and the outstanding Patten both saw rasping drives drift wide before Wells completed the scoring, with eight minutes remaining, to wrap up a confident win.
